SPICE (ISO/IEC 33001): Software Process Assessment
October 1, 2026
IP Testing to EN 60529: IP Codes and Test Process
October 1, 2026Accreditation is the formal confirmation, by a national accreditation body, that an organisation is competent to carry out specific conformity assessment work such as testing, calibration, inspection or certification. It answers one question: can the results and certificates of this laboratory or body be trusted? For accreditation consultancy, apply to CE Danışmanı (CE Consultant); we manage the whole process for you.
Accreditation and certification are not the same
| Certification | Accreditation | |
|---|---|---|
| Who is assessed | A company, its management system or its product | The laboratory, inspection body or certification body itself |
| Who assesses | A certification body | The national accreditation body |
| What it shows | The requirements of a standard are met | The body is competent and impartial in the scope it is accredited for |
A manufacturer does not become accredited. A manufacturer is certified, or has its product tested, by a body that is accredited.
Who can be accredited, and to which standard
- Testing and calibration laboratories: ISO/IEC 17025
- Inspection bodies: ISO/IEC 17020
- Bodies that audit and certify management systems: ISO/IEC 17021
- Product certification bodies: ISO/IEC 17065
Accreditation is always granted for a defined scope. A laboratory accredited for one test method is not accredited for every test it offers, so the scope should be checked together with the accreditation itself.
Accreditation bodies
Each country normally has one national accreditation body.
- TÜRKAK (Turkish Accreditation Agency) is the national accreditation body of Turkey. Laboratories, inspection bodies and certification bodies established in Turkey apply to TÜRKAK.
- DAkkS is the national accreditation body of Germany.
- IAS (International Accreditation Service) is an accreditation body based in the United States.
Accreditation bodies recognise each other through international arrangements such as the IAF multilateral recognition arrangement. This is what allows a test report or certificate issued under accreditation in one country to be accepted in another.
What the accreditation body looks at
- Whether the management system and working practices of the body meet the relevant standard
- Whether the staff have the required training and competence
- Whether the body is impartial and its results are reliable
Accreditation is not a one-time event. The accreditation body audits accredited organisations at regular intervals for as long as the accreditation is held.
Why it matters to manufacturers and importers
- A test report from an accredited laboratory carries more weight with customers, market surveillance authorities and customs.
- A management system certificate, such as ISO 9001, is recognised internationally when the certification body that issued it is accredited.
- For CE marking, tests carried out in accredited laboratories give the technical file a sound basis.
CE Danışmanı coordinates tests with accredited laboratories and works with accredited bodies for its certification projects.
