EMC Directive 2014/30/EU

ISO/IEC 17020: Accreditation of Inspection Bodies
October 1, 2026ISO 14001 is the international standard for environmental management systems. It is the certifiable standard of the ISO 14000 family, and it looks at the environmental effects of a product or service from the raw material stage until it reaches the consumer. With CE Danışmanı (CE Consultant) you get your ISO 14001 certificate through a single point of contact for the whole process.
What ISO 14001 covers
- It is a management system standard, not a product standard. It deals with what happens during production, not with the quality of the product.
- It does not set a specific level of environmental performance. It requires the organisation to improve its own performance systematically.
- It supports the organisation in identifying and meeting its environmental compliance obligations.
- It is voluntary and applies to any organisation that provides products or services, whatever its sector or size.
What the system is meant to achieve
- Protecting the environment by preventing or reducing adverse environmental impacts
- Reducing the effect that environmental conditions may have on the organisation
- Improving environmental performance
- Controlling how products and services are designed, produced, distributed, consumed and disposed of, using a life cycle perspective
- Financial and operational benefits from environmentally sound alternatives, which strengthen the organisation’s market position
- Communicating environmental information to interested parties
Structure of the standard
- Scope
- Normative references
- Terms and definitions
- Context of the organisation
- Leadership
- Planning
- Support
- Operation
- Performance evaluation
- Improvement
The structure is shared with ISO 9001 and ISO 45001, so the three systems can be set up and audited together.
The environmental policy
Top management defines the environmental policy before anything else. The policy must:
- Be appropriate to the nature, scale and environmental impacts of the organisation’s activities, products and services
- Provide a framework for setting and reviewing environmental objectives
- Include a commitment to continual improvement and to the prevention of pollution
- Include a commitment to meet environmental legislation and the other requirements the organisation has accepted
- Be documented, implemented, maintained and understood by all personnel
- Be available to the public
What a company gains
- A structured way to follow national and international environmental legislation
- Pollution from operations brought under control through planning and preventive measures
- Lower raw material and waste costs through better use of resources
- Fewer environmental incidents and the costs that come with them
- Emergency situations identified in advance, with staff prepared for them
- Staff trained in waste management and environmental awareness
- A stronger position with customers who ask their suppliers for ISO 14001
Is ISO 14001 mandatory?
No. The standard is voluntary and is not limited to any sector or company size. In practice it is often requested in tenders and by customers abroad.
Validity
ISO 14001 certificates are valid for three years. During that period the certification body carries out a surveillance audit each year, and the outcome of those audits determines whether the certificate stays valid.
