October 1, 2026
ISO/IEC 17021 Consultancy for Certification Bodies
October 1, 2026ISO 45001 is the international standard for occupational health and safety (OH&S) management systems. It is for any organisation that wants to improve health and safety at work, eliminate hazards, reduce OH&S risks and take advantage of OH&S opportunities. With CE Danışmanı (CE Consultant) you get your ISO 45001 certificate through a single point of contact for the whole process.
What ISO 45001 is
- A generic standard that applies to organisations of every type and size, in manufacturing, trade and services
- Preventive: it aims to stop work-related harm before it occurs
- Voluntary, but once the system is set up its requirements have to be followed
- System based, and supported by documented procedures
It provides a systematic approach to assessing risks in the workplace, meeting legal requirements, encouraging worker participation, preparing emergency plans and improving continually.
Background
The OHSAS 18001 specification was published in 1999 and revised in 2007. In 2018 it was replaced by ISO 45001:2018, prepared by the ISO committee for occupational health and safety management systems (ISO/TC 283).

Points that auditors look at closely
Hierarchy of controls
The first aim is to remove the cause. Measures that depend on the person, such as personal protective equipment, come last:
- Eliminate the hazard
- Substitute with less hazardous materials, processes, operations or equipment
- Use engineering controls or reorganise the work
- Use administrative controls, including training
- Use adequate personal protective equipment
Management of change
Temporary and permanent changes that affect OH&S performance have to be planned and controlled: new or changed products, services and processes, workplace and working conditions, equipment and workforce, legal requirements, and new knowledge about hazards and technology.
Procurement and contractors
The organisation has to control contractor activities that affect it (cleaning, security, catering), activities that affect the contractor’s own workers (machinery, chemicals) and activities that affect other parties in the workplace (construction, infrastructure). OH&S criteria are part of contractor selection.
Evaluation of compliance
The organisation decides how and how often it evaluates compliance with legal and other requirements, acts on the results and keeps documented information about them.
Management review
At planned intervals top management reviews the status of earlier actions, changes in internal and external issues, the extent to which the policy and objectives have been met, incidents and corrective actions, monitoring results, adequacy of resources, communication with interested parties and opportunities for improvement.
Who the interested parties are
Legal authorities, workers, customers, suppliers, non-governmental organisations, financial institutions and insurers. They expect compliance with the law and with standards, transparency, and that customer-specific requirements and objectives are met.
The certification audit
- Application to the certification body once the documentation is complete, followed by the contract and the audit plan.
- Stage 1. The lead auditor confirms the information in the application, the scope, the way the system works and the evaluation of legal compliance, and reports any nonconformities.
- Stage 2. An on-site audit that collects objective evidence by sampling the activities and processes in the scope, including off-site activities where they exist.
- Corrective actions. Nonconformities are corrected and the corrections are accepted by the lead auditor.
- Certificate and surveillance. A surveillance programme is agreed, starting with the first annual visit.
